Painting with Annie, a lil homemade chalk paint and more
I worked on a few of the 18 projects I have....ooo' make that 19, watching some of the final swim events for Phelps tonight...amazing...and all the other events where we have shined...so impressive...OK off track, time to show you what I have been up too. I picked up some sad stuff last Monday. A little desk,a little whatever end table, a twin headboard and foot board, a little suit case, a sewing box, a double headboard, a dresser, and still have yet to finish the armoir' redo and the old TV to become a dry bar....Ok their is more, but lets see what you have finished Kat......
Ok the difference in where you take your pictures. The above whatever end table, I took the pic in my yard...the little grass the deer have not ate up...but outside pics come out better then any pic I take at the shop, where I sell my makeovers. Below is a shot of the desk I did to pair with the chair I redid. The difference is lighting, and the ability to focus on the single item vs everything around what you are trying to show off. So word to myself, you have to give yourself the time to take pictures at home. Talking to myself again..lets look at the path these items took ,before they landed at Moore & Garrett in Belton TX
O do you notice the little corner of a chair look, this is the school desk I did and showed back in March, still to date has not sold...Some times you win some times no...I may revisit what has sold and what has not...Ok back to the what I did to bring these two back from a sad sad place.....
Yeap these items we're in rough shape, as you can see I had to use some wood glue or lots of wood glue plus those wonderful clamps that pull every thing back to Plum....don't you like that word....plum
Yes I did line, the drawer and painted inside and outside, the drawers are painted in a deep eggplant. This color I have used mixed with black plus a little plaster of paris...making my own chalk paint. I used the pure eggplant because our local Belton College is Univeristy of Mary Hardin Baylor(originally the woman's college for Baylor) their color is purple so with school starting soon, I thought Be Brave, and use some color....the color was also used in a little distressing on the edges...all over including this fun wood pull...
Ok can you tell what colors I used in this little shaker look table.I used Annie Sloan to start a soft lavender color. Then used a dark wax over the whole body, the top was painted with the dark eggplant a Behr paint in flat. Again I used the dark wax on the top and the sides....So this came out looking pretty good compared to where it started....Ok so how did the desk start out....SAD
So do you notice anything in this picture, yeap my kitty. Or should I say she has finally decided after 10 years to be my kitty, this is Grace she is one of our "we saved you" a calico that is very shy. She loves my sun room turned work room . She is outside but save outside. She thought hiding out was the best place on one of hottest 106....and I am painting, what was I thinking.
This is a shot of the desk, close enough to see the damaged top. Plus Grace says Hi, she is just very shy. The drawers had a few problems but no too bad.
This stuff is great, I did clean his up some, but all these spots we're nicked or split, and I used the wood filler and then cleaned up the residue with sandpaper. Then the paint came out....and she was painted using Annie Sloan Old White as a primer....then I used Annie Sloan Emporer's Silk Red. The black is Behr flat black and the interior paint is Behrs,watermelon...a little bit of everything...plus the interior of the drawers line on the bottom with some scrap book sheets I picked up on sale...So out came the Modpodge too....
I had some of the Red Silk color left, I thought marry it with the desk . For a young Drama Queen, I think this would be fun....I used Dark Wax on everything except the area I wanted to stay old white. I love the Drama of black and how it can play off any color ,but red is always Dramatic....
I love lining drawers, so why? WHY do I not do my own....Hmmmm
I guess it is easier to do something for someone else, then in your own house...kinda the clean your friends house to help her out,or do your own...?
I am thinking I need to add feet, she needs a little height...I had not sat down at the desk, and when I did using the chair she feels short, I may end up seperating and find a little chair, she may become a boys desk and not a drama queens....oops my sale tags I missed pulling....Their is that darn school desk that will not sell....I think perfect for a phone desk...so I marked her down again. I hope 35.oo will sell her, I mean she is Sears and Robuck vintage late 1800's with iron legs ect.....she wants a new home.....
I love the drama of these colors and playing in color is so much fun. But I will be falling back to Old White on my next piece...a little round table. Should be a double decker but her top piece left along time ago. So I figured out how to fix her.....Back to this little desk, I am thinking either small wheels,to raise her. OR I could do some blocks that would fit with her feet,,,,or change the lining then I would use the red as the back ground and do a subway style with City's names or do you have an idea...I am not sure she is done yet...
Thank you for visiting and thank you for your comments and suggestions....
kalamities to contentment,Kathryn

A wonderful and dramatic chair! Love!
I think the desk and chair is eye catching! The black and red together is dramatic but FUN! It has to appeal to that one special person! You put a lot of passion in your work...it shows...don't worry-it will sell!! It's so wonderful you have your own shop! Being creative and seeing someone LOVE it, is what it's all about! From one sweetie to another~~~Roxie
Thanks so much for sharing this desk and chair last week with Wednesday's Adorned From Above. They are really cute. The link party is open now for this week.
