Annie Sloan Chalk paint and the amazing facts of this paint. No prep! Mixing power of colors! sanding with no pealing! and you can paint over the wax!!!!!

OK guys this is one of two matching, similar to the one I did in Ombre Aqua and  turq, and yes the headboard that ended up in turq, tones and Carnival brights for a fun headboard...posted in August.  But back to the point of these two matching chairs. Solid wood, and fun cuts and curves. But they say "I'm over that golden oak" These we're a pick up by a friend of ours who said, Kat you can find a way to make these pretty. OK lets see what we can do....

OK, so did I make them pretty enough for you, I hope so the first one came along and played nice. She was painted in ASCP, CoCo, then a wash of Old White, a little shot of a chocolate by Behr and some Country Grey by Annie. Once I had the look I waxed using ASCP dark wax....I then distressed and hit it with a dry brush of old white in a wash...A little more distressing,I think I am done with this one...
My original idea was drop cloth and a transfer, but a little issue came up so this is the fabric I selected. I has seen this at Hobby Lobby and thought I want to use that some day on a makeover...I think adds lots of charm to this chair....and guess what. I did, I really did...I used my Sewing Machine again.
Mr Kalamitie came home seeing me sew a pillow, and took a picture with his phone. He said first time to see me sitting at a sewing machine...may be I will make some money back on the investment...only a year and a half  off. I think this one came out looking pretty good. Ok lets do the next one and have them match...so off to painting the second one and make it match the first. Two will sell so much better right.......

Now wait a minute, Huh this does not look like the one up the page, let me take another look do they match......

No way, these two do not match...this looks like a Princess chair...all pretty and shinny even...what is going on....? Do you really want to know...Ok look me strait in the face and tell what gives...why am I a Blue Sheen Princess and my match is Paris Distressed , would it have been so hard to match my paint...?
The name of my blog is Kats Kalamities for a reason- stuff happens and some-times it is my own fault...when I mixed the Old White and the Country Grey ! I did not mix enough for two chairs...I did not pay attention to my mix. I did notice I was out of pure white...which in the first one I used a Lil..and no matter what I did...I could not get it right...the look kept looking darker. Less of a washed look...and although I started the same way...I now have on a blue dress of pretty soft blue grays with a little silver sheen.....
So you are saying that under my dress of blue their is Co Co and Old White and County Grey and Dark Wax...yeap their is...and I thought paint pure white....because I went and picked some up...did not like it...so out came the Behr Blue I had used with the Table and chairs I did in August(look at August posts) I added a flat white by Behr and a little decorative silver that I had and mixed it all up on a paper plate...this is pretty lets see what happens....So I painted...and then I added a wash of silver over the whole thing....Let it dry and buffed...then took a fine sandpaper and hit it for a little burnished look around normal where spots...

OK that meant the drop cloth with a transfer image went out the door, and the Paris graphic material came into play sooner then I thought...so off to Hobby Lobby I went....and took a piece of the paper plate with me with the paint....because like the first one...I mixed and did not measure...and made just enough for the chair....I found this luscious silky dreamy fabric..

Now we have the  story of two chairs that took tooooo long to do....where a kalamitie to paint and upholstery I will not go their...the holes where angled wrong...no wonder the seat was loose...OK I fixed that problem....I had material left over...why do I always buy too much...SO I said "Kat just get the d......... sewing machine out and make a couple little pillows..." and I did! Yippee..... So that is the story of two matching chairs that now have two separate look and will find homes in two separate families...to live happily  ever after.....I myself have learned....make enough of a mixed paint to complete the project- work the two side by side to maintain the treatment is the same....and Annie Sloan Paint is the most forgiving paint ever..no competition when  you can cover with out prep, you can paint over so many paints and wax too...and still have a finish that is silky smooth...like the Dreamy Princess chair...

So these are the matching chairs that could not get along and now have their own look....Hope you enjoyed their Kalamitie's and hope they will be content in their new homes when they sell..But again I will say separate chairs are a tough sale.....

i AM CARNIVAL OMBRE' AND I AM A MIX OF AQUA,TURQ TONES.A FUN  GAL WITH THE SAME BONES....AS
ME, I AM PRINCESS BLUE WITH A SHINE OF SILVER WASH..DRESSED UP FOR YOU
I AM PARIS CHIC, WITH A WHITE WASH DISTRESSED TREATMENT AND A TRUE ONE OF A KIND....

I AM WHAT WE ALL LOOKED LIKE IN THE BEGINNING...WHY COULD THEIR HAVE NOT BEEN 4.......3'S A CROWD ....SO WE ALL WILL TAKE OUR SEPARATE WAYS......

SO GOOD NIGHT, AND THANKS FOR STOPPING BY...LETS SEE WHAT KALAMITIES I CAN TURN INTO CONTENTMENT...ON THE NEXT PROJECT....THAT ONE WILL BE FOR ON OF MY TREASURES....MISS ALEXANDRIA NEEDS A NEW BED...SO GRANDMA KAT FOUND ONE....BUT LIKE ALL OF THESE CHAIRS...THEY JUST NEED SOME LOVE AND THE POWER OF PAINT......THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENTS, and to each of you have a great labor day and hope you have time to enjoy your family...Kat...hryn

  2. These chairs are fan-double-tastic!!! And I totally get you with the "Kalamities"... I think Kammy's Korner should be called Kammy's Kalamities most days! haha. Why didn't I think of that? Probably cuz my hubby named my blog, set it up, and said, hey Honey. You have a blog. I said, "I do?!!" Anyways, GREAT chair makeovers!

  3. So true about matching things after the fact. A lesson in futility isn't it? Well, I just love the trio each having a look of their own. The turquoise color is fabulous and I love the use of the decorative silver. It gives that dimension that makes the pieces show stoppers!
